IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Bruce Young
1946 – 2026
July 21, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Young at the age of 80. He passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, surrounded by his beloved wife and daughter at May Court Hospice in Ottawa.
Robert is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Ginette Bertrand; his children, Tristan (Amanda), Kristie (Warren), Shawn, and Christopher; his stepchildren, Martine (Jean Guillaume) and David; and his cherished grandchildren, Jaden, Zoë, Cassandra, Sebastian, Annabelle, Aaron, Louis Maurice, and Emeric. He is also survived by his brothers, Jay (Sue) and Christopher, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Bruce Young and Lenora Margaret Taylor. In a heartbreaking turn of events, his younger brother, Greg, passed away only a few days after Robert, leaving the family with two profound losses in such a short time.
Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Robert enjoyed a happy childhood before pursuing higher education. While working at SIMS Canada as a project and sales manager, he completed his Master of Business Administration at the University of Ottawa, co-authoring a case study published in Contemporary Canadian Marketing Cases.
A proud francophile and an exceptional bilingual communicator, Robert travelled across Canada as a representative for SIMS Canada, promoting and providing training on innovative medical technology products.
Robert had a keen interest in World War 2 aviation history and enjoyed researching his father’s and uncles’ war service as bomber crew. He spent many late nights and early mornings speaking with like-minded descendants of their aircrews in the UK.
Dedicated, talented, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humour, Robert generously shared his many passions with family and friends, including wine appreciation, travel, genealogy, golf, and fine cuisine. A builder at heart, he personally oversaw the construction of all three of his homes and took particular pride in the one he built overlooking the Greensmere Golf Course in Carp.
A private funeral service for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the entire palliative care team at May Court Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
Expressions of sympathy can be translated into donations to the May Court Hospice or the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

This past week has been a tragic loss for the Young family and their loved ones. Bob was like a brother to me . We had a special connection because of our being born in Hamilton hospital on same day. We were so proud of that fact ! Bob was just like his Dad - funny , a great conversationalist , a wonderful Father , Husband , brother and to me a cousin and a good friend. I love to chat with him about ancestry. We both enjoyed learning new facts about our heritage. I will miss our chats and I will miss him . My sincere sympathies and love to all of his family .

Dear Ginette,
We talked a lot about Bob this morning, thinking about what to write on his tribute page. Boy, there sure was a lot to talk about!!
We learned early on that Bob loved to travel and experience new cultures, new wines, new culinary experiences, and new people who became friends: the sun and surf of Bequia and Barbados, in Italy with friends, in Turkey with Stuart and Odette, Golf and shenanigans at Owl’s Head or Jay Peak in September every year for 20 years with “the gang” of at least “22 of his best friends,” us included, and the delight of wines and gastronomy in France. In fact, Bob’s knowledge of wines, beers and liquors would post most sommeliers to shame.
And of course, your fabulous annual “Canada Day Golf and BBQ” for years. None of the basic hamburgers for Bob: he’d create hamburgers filled with goat cheese and herbs, make lamb burgers, and more. He’d “coddle his eggs” for his Caesar salads.
Bob had stories galore. Stories of his youth, stories from his life experiences. Stories that when he told them, you laughed all the way down to your toes. Stories that some people might not have believed, but if they came from Bob, you knew they were true! The trauma of mustard on his brand-new white golf shoes and the tale of trading his car for a parachute are two of the best.
Bob had a strong personality and was intelligent, informed, and well read. He worked hard, played hard, had opinions, dressed beautifully, enjoyed life, loved fully. His friends meant the world to him. And always with Ginette by his side – they were truly a team. He simply adored her and told us that “she was his angel” several times in recent months. Bob loved his children beyond measure and wanted them to be happy always.
We have so many memories of times with Bob, so many incredible treasured moments. We loved him dearly and will miss him always. Rest in peace, wonderful friend.
Nos plus sincères condoléances à toi et la famille, Ginette.
