In memory of

Marie Patricia Dean

1943 - 2026

Marie Patricia Dean (Welch)??

On July 30, 2026, Ottawa,Ontario. Marie Patricia Dean ( Welch), age 83, passed peacefully with her family and best friend (Wendy Shipman Haycock) by her side.

In typical Marie fashion, there was plenty of singing and music comforting her as she made her transition.

Marie was a talented singer who loved to share her voice with the world. Always friendly, she made every effort to help people feel special and welcome. Her kindness and love will remain with us forever.

Marie was born on January 8, 1943, in Toronto, Ontario, to her proud parents, Bernice Welch (Seckington) and Jack Welch. She was always delighted to tell people that she shared a birthday with Elvis Presley. She was proud to be born a redhead.

She was born while her father, Jack , was serving during World War II. The blessing of a new baby brought joy to the family during such a challenging and difficult time.

Her early years were spent enjoying quality time with family and friends at the family cottage at Balm Beach. Tennis, cards, Quiddler, cribbage, bonfires, corn roasts and singing were among the highlights Marie shared with many generations throughout the years at this place that was so dear to her heart.

She went on to graduate from University of Toronto after studying physiotherapy, then moved to Ottawa to pursue a job at the Civic later working for Bradson Home Health Care until retirement. She was always happy to offer guidance on how to heal and feel better.

Marie was a proud member of the Bells Corners United Church UCW and chorus group. She later joined the Canadian Showtime Chorus and made many wonderful memories over more than 35 years, with international competitions always putting a twinkle in her eye.

Her biggest smiles appeared whenever she spoke of her three daughters, Tricia, Kerry, and Cindy. She was always the proud Mama Bear, never wavering in her love, support, and devotion. She especially loved swimming with her granddaughter Adriana and celebrating Thanksgivings at her Bass Lake cottage.

Scrabble and Cabby were games she delighted in playing with her grandchildren, Jonah ( Sarah), and Carissa (Tyler), as well as her sons-in-law, Jean (Tricia) and Dan (Kerry). We all share a fond memory of playing kazoos with Marie at Christmas.

Her family, friends, and grand-dogs brought her endless joy, and she will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A celebration of life will take place On Sunday, August 23 at Bells Corners United Church located at 3955 Old Richmond Rd, Nepean, Ontario, K2H 5C5. The time will be 2-5.

Our sincere thanks to the A3 staff, nurses and doctors at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their care and support.

A special thanks to Dr.Ing at the Irving Greenberg Family Centre for the compassion he showed to Marie during her Cancer Journey.

In place of flowers, donations can be made to The Queensway Carleton Hospital.
