In memory of

Frederick William Bowie

1955 - 2025

Fred William Bowie

August 24, 1955 - December 18, 2025

With heavy hearts and sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Fred. Peacefully, with family at his side, Fred closed his eyes for the last time on December 18, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Rita (Bisenti), two devoted daughters, Melinda and Sarah (Corey Jones) and his adoring grandchildren, Maia and Owen. Fred was pre-deceased by his parents Marian and Keith Bowie. Brother to Pat (Sharron), Daniel (Tanya), Michael (Anne), Peter (Ri) and pre-deceased by Kevin (Susan). Brother-in-law to Pina (Domenic Micucci), Giovanna (Luigi Cassandra) and Sam Bisenti. He is remembered by his many nieces and nephews for all the fun times they had with their Uncle Freddy. He treasured every moment spent with his big Bowie family and always looked forward to sharing stories and spending time with his many cousins. Fred was a well-loved man who cherished family and friends and we all benefited from his love for life, his stories and his wonderful sense of humour.

Many know Fred as a devoted, hard working man and local philanthropist. He began his successful career in the financial industry in 1980 and was known as an innovator and brilliant storyteller. In true entrepreneurial spirit, Fred mentored and encouraged many others to start businesses with only a simple thanks for compensation.

His generosity in charity and service benefacted many institutions such as The Youville Centre, The Ottawa Little Theatre, The Ottawa Humane Society, the parishes of St. Isidore (Kanata), St. Elizabeth (Ottawa) and St. Mark (Boynton Beach, FL), as well as numerous friends, colleagues, family and many strangers over the years. He served as Trustee for the Ottawa Roman Catholic Separate School Board and sat on numerous committees and boards as director, chairperson and advisor. He lived a life of integrity and purpose and left behind a lasting impression on many.

We would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, Dr. Tara Jennings and Monsignor Kevin Beech for their compassion and support shown to Fred and the family during his final weeks. Donations in Fred’s memory may be made to Hospice Care Ottawa, any of the charities mentioned, or to someone you may know who is in need of a helping hand.

On Saturday, January 3, 2026, we will celebrate Fred's remarkable life at St. Isidore Parish, 1135 March Road, Kanata. Visitation will begin at 10AM, with Holy Mass at 11AM, followed by a reception in the parish hall. All are welcome to attend.

Sweet Rita & Girls, Sarah, Melissa & Family We have been thinking continuously about You since hearing of Freddie’s passing. What a legacy - amazing what some special people can accomplish in a lifetime. We have been sickly lately and therefore would not request visitation; but I believe one of my coworkers may have cared for him and I asked Karoline to blow him a kiss to let him know we were thinking of him. Our prayers are with you at this difficult time. He is at Peace with His Maker and I know he would want you to find this Peace. Love, Cousin Kim & Gord 🫂 🫂

: I met Fred in Grade 2 in 1963 when our family moved to Ottawa from Montreal. He was my first friend in Ottawa. For more than 60 yrs we have stayed friends and as well I became friends with many of his brothers. I can attest to Fred’s character, love of family, integrity and humanity. He with Rita became strong members of the community and always gave back to society. I have only heard people talk of Fred in a positive way, all enjoying his sense of humour and wispy smile. Fred will be missed by all who knew him and we will cherish the memories of our friend. Tom Donnelly

Rita and family. We extend our sincere condolences and are so sorry to hear of the passing of Fred. Fred would always find the time to participate and contribute to so many causes. We send you our love and prayers and hope that the fond memories we all have of Fred bring you some peace and comfort during these most difficult times. As Marian would often say he was one of her "6 beautiful boys"! He fought his cancer to the end and as usual, gave it his ALL!
