In memory of

Dr. Lucien Millette

1932 - 2025

Dr. Lucien Joseph Narcisse Millette, M.D., F.R.C.S.C., died peacefully in hospital on November 7, 2025, following a period of declining health.  Survived by his wife Sonja (States); children Lisa, Lucien Jr., Jacques, and Julianne; son-in-law Chris Pollard; and grandchildren Laura, Anna, and Mary Pollard and Nathaniel, Adam, Rebecca and Eva Martin.  Also survived by his sister Georgette, sister-in-law Annette (Jim Scoville), and many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents Honorius and Marie-Rose Millette, and siblings Cécile, Jeanne, Charles, Ovila, Rose-Hélène, Honorius, Roméo, Elise, Lucienne, and Emile.

Lucien (Lou) was born on the family farm near Storthoaks, Saskatchewan, on May 18, 1932, the tenth of the twelve Millette children.  He was educated at Collège Mathieu in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan; Université Laval in Quebec City; and the former Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where he met Sonja.  They were married in 1964, lived briefly in Montreal, then in Brandon, Manitoba, from 1966 to 1971.  They then settled in Edmonton, Alberta, where Lucien practised at the Misericordia Hospital as a General Surgeon; he also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Alberta, and for a few years as the Misericordia’s Chief of Surgery.   After retiring, he and Sonja moved to Eastern Ontario to be closer to family, making many new friends in Hammond, Rockland, and Cumberland.  A man of strong Catholic faith, Lucien was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus.

As a young man, Lucien was recognized for his prowess on the pitcher’s mound.  He had a lifelong love of the outdoors; he grew his own potatoes, and in his limited free time he often took his family camping, or on many successful fishing and hunting trips.  He was especially proud to have won the Edmonton Fish and Game Association trophy for the biggest moose in 1975.  He could make and fix anything.  With more time in retirement, he enjoyed reading; watching hockey, baseball, and the news; and playing pool, cards, darts, and pétanque.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday November 21, at St. Faustina Parish, 2571 Ottawa Regional Road 174, Cumberland, Ontario.  The family will receive condolences half an hour before Mass.  Private inurnment at Ste. Trinité Cemetery, Rockland, at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  Arrangements in the care of the Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa.
