Dorothy Ellen Lamothe

1947 - 2025

Dorothy Ellen Lamothe (née Emptage), a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and loving friend, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born in Meaford, Ontario, on January 1, 1947, by parents Helen and Walter Emptage, Dorothy carried the warmth of her birth town throughout her life. She would often return with her husband and children in tow, forging everlasting memories. She eventually made her home in Orléans, Ottawa, where she became a beloved figure in her community, known for her kindness, patience, generosity, ready smile, sense of humor and boisterous laughter.

Dorothy had a dedicated career working for the Federal Government in Ottawa, where her professionalism, hard work and friendly nature were well-regarded. Following her retirement, she wore other hats including providing childcare and working at Babies”R”Us. However, her greatest joy and life's work was in raising and supporting her family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Lamothe, and is survived by her three children, Mark, Shawn, and Leanne and brother Frank. Dorothy's memory will be forever cherished by her six adored grandchildren: Payton, Hailee, Adeline, Nolan, Ezra, and Ezekiel.

Dorothy had a deep and abiding love for animals. Her home was a haven not just for her family, but for close friends. She built a rich life in Orléans, fostering enduring friendships with her neighbours and community members, all of whom will miss her dearly.  As per her final wishes, she has been laid to rest in Meaford, Ontario with her parents

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hammond Golf and Country Club (600 Du Golf Road, Hammond) on Sunday November 23rd, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  All friends and family are welcome to attend. Catering and refreshments provided.

Dorothy has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve known her and her family since I was four years old, and her home always felt like a second home to me. She was wonderfully laid back, always ready to drop anything for her children, and she extended that same comfort and acceptance to the people in their lives. I could show up at their house any day of the week, and she was never surprised to see me there once again. I feel blessed to have found a best friend in Leanne so early in life, and privileged to have been welcomed so naturally by her family, and by Dorothy. Her children were her greatest joy, and her legacy shines so brightly through them and her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.

Dorothy was a great friend and coworker. A caring person who smiled and was cheerful when many wound be crumbling. We met through work and it was a privilege to know her.

I will always remember Dorothy for being so kind, warm and accepting. She was so devoted to her family and community. Leanne has been a friend of mine since I was 5 yrs old; growing up I remember Dorothy as a spark of kindness and her devotion to her children and community was obvious in her selfless service. I especially remember her enthusiasm volunteering at all our school events. Leanne and family, I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences.

I met Dorothy at work many, many years ago. She was a lovely, caring and kind person. I can still hear her laugh. I’m sure she’s a star in heaven. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.
