Davidson, Charlotte Margaret
On February 4th, 2026, Charlotte Margaret Davidson (née Moore) died peacefully in her 86th year at her home in Ottawa surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Walter Davidson, and her 5 children Malcolm (Lise) in Oegstgeest, The Netherlands, Fraser (Judy) in St John’s, Newfoundland, Fiona (Kent) in Ottawa, Heather (Michaël) in Toronto, and Chantal (Kelcey) in Saint- Lambert, Québec, as well as her 15 grandchildren (Walter, Pedro, Marie; Selina, Marcus; Naomi, Claire, Eveline, Iona, Annelise; Laura, Thomas, Annabelle; Charlotte, Fraser).
Charlotte was born in London, Ontario on May 1, 1940, to parents the Rev. John B. Moore and Eleanor McCubbin. She was the older sister to her brothers John (Barbara) and George (deceased). Growing up in southern Ontario she moved several times and lived successively in Milton, Waterdown, and St. Catharines before taking up studies at Victoria College at the University of Toronto where she graduated in 1961 with her BA in history. Following teacher’s training and two years as a high school teacher in Etobicoke, she travelled to Togo in West Africa in the summer of 1964 as a volunteer helping build a school in the rural hinterland. She moved on to study Nutrition and Biochemistry at the University of Manitoba graduating with her M.Sc. in 1966 and piloting – together with her supervisor Prof. Elizabeth Feniak - the Meals on Wheels program.
It was in Winnipeg where she met her “Prince Charming” Walter from Edinburgh, Scotland, a fellow student finishing his PhD in Physics. They married on October 8, 1966, in Waterloo, Ontario. Always open to adventures and challenges, she embarked together with Walter on what would be a 12-year international journey with as ports of call Canberra, Australia (1967-1971), Jülich, Germany (1971-1974), and Saint-Égrève, France (1974-1979) before returning in September 1979 settling with her family in Old Ottawa South. She later enjoyed a new European adventure in 1990 when she accompanied Walter during his 5-year diplomatic assignment in Bonn, Germany.
Charlotte’s faith and devotion to her family remained the foundation of her life. She was a hard worker and never shied away from dedicating her time and effort to help others whatever the circumstances. She especially enjoyed reading books first to her children, and then grandchildren, up until the last year of her life. An animal lover, she cared tenderly for her 3 cats Archibald, Beethoven and Misty. Her warm and loving smile, and laughter, lit up family dinners and special get togethers. She engaged and contributed enormously to different communities through her volunteer work including Meals on Wheels Ottawa and The King’s Daughters and Sons. As a member of St. Bernard Anglican parish for 40 years, she taught Sunday school to a whole generation of children. She also welcomed and provided invaluable support to many newly arrived families in Canada at a time when they most needed her help. Somehow, in all of this, there was still time to research her family genealogy over several decades, gifting us with a database of over 18 000 ancestors. She will be deeply missed.
We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who contributed so much to Charlotte’s final years and to our friends and neighbours who provided support.
A Memorial Service celebrating Charlotte’s life will take place at 11am on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Paroisse St. Bernard, Trinity Anglican Church, 1230 Bank St, corner of Cameron St., Ottawa. If friends wish memorial donations in Charlotte’s name may be made to Meals on Wheels Ottawa or the Bruyère Health Memory Clinic.

Affectueusement, Claude

Dear Walter,
We are deeply saddened to hear of Charlotte’s passing. I will always remember with gratitude the wonderful time during my school years when I stayed with you for three months and was welcomed like a sixth child into your family — with Charlotte managing everything with such warmth and care. We were also truly happy that we could visit you again in Ottawa years later with our children too.
All of us strongly hope that you and your whole family will find strength and support in each other during this difficult time.
With our very best regards from Munich,

SPOUSE, MOTHER & GRANDMOTHER
Father in heaven, we praise your name for the grace you gave Charlotte. Into your hands, O merciful Saviour, we commend your servant. Amen!
OUR SINCERE CONDOLENCES!
To Walter, children and grandchildren, we are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Charlotte. She has been an inspiration with a Christian faith central to her life. From teacher to volunteer overseas and back for M.Sc., coupled with 5 children are extraordinary milestones in the life of every spouse, mother and fulltime worker.
While you grieving for the loss of your beloved Charlotte, our prayers are with you. May the love and peace of Jesus bring you healing, solace and care in your sorrow.

It has taken some time but I finally wanted to express our sympathy and condolences to the Family of Charlotte Davidson. Through The King's Daughters and Sons KDS we were introduced to Charlotte when she came to inquire several years ago about Autism, as it became a focus for KDS. Walter and Charlotte supported Children at Risk, Ottawa and their granddaughter even worked at Camp Kaleidoscope! Charlotte was the KDS Historian for many years and reminded all of us of the beginnings of KDS and the Values it had stood for. It has been a pleasure to know the local Davidson Family and we recognize that they (and we) will deeply miss their Matriarch as she is now embraced in the arms of our Lord.
