In memory of

David Thompson

1932 - 2026

David Charles Thompson

September 28, 1932 - May 22, 2026

David Charles Thompson, 93, of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026 at the Montfort hospital.

Son of the late Roy and Mary Thompson.  David considered himself lucky in his marriage and his children.  A devoted father, he will be deeply missed by his children Andrew (Annelle Lalonde) and Mark (Ilyana Karthas); his four beloved grandchildren, Maxwell and Marie-France (Andrew Thompson and Annelle Lalonde), and Dylan and Sofia Thompson (Mark Thompson and Ilyana Karthas); and his nephew and nieces, Alex, Stephanie and Mary Eleanor. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Thompson (née Crowther).

As the only child of a master mechanic with the CPR, David lived in many railway towns as a child (Smiths Falls, Perth, Sherbrooke, Farnham, and Chapleau).  He attended Victoria College at the University of Toronto and went on to graduate from the University of Toronto Law School in 1957.  David was appointed a Queen’s Counsel and had a long and fulfilling career at Bell Baker that spanned more than sixty years.  His professional career included highlights such as bringing a case before the Supreme Court of Canada and serving as President of the Carleton County Law Association.

Family and friends were the core of David’s life.  David had many hobbies and interests (literature, model airplanes, opera, hunting, wine tasting, the Napoleonic Wars).  These varied interests led to many deep friendships that enriched his life.  One of his fondest memories was of a trip to Spain to retrace the steps of Wellington with his friends.  The family is grateful for the kindness and steadfast support of all his friends over the years.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 24th from 11:30 am-2:30 pm at Pinecrest Cemetery in Ottawa.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David’s memory to Hospice Care Ottawa or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
